The “Jesús Moreno Jiménez” Federation of Unions (FESIJEM) retained control of the collective bargaining agreement at the Mondelez International plant, after obtaining nearly 70% of the vote in a process that lasted almost two days.
The consultation included a base of nearly 800 unionized workers and more than 250 temporary workers. The General Union of Mexico (UGM) garnered approximately 23% of the vote, according to reports from the process.
The recount began on the night of April 22 and concluded on April 24, under the supervision of the Federal Labor Court for Collective Affairs, with support from federal judicial authorities and observers from the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare.
The dispute over union representation dragged on for months and resulted in the activation, on two occasions, of the Rapid Response Labor Mechanism of the USMCA, following allegations of potential infringements on freedom of association.
Mexican authorities concluded that no irregularities were found in the process, which allowed the vote to be validated and the continuation of the collective agreement under the representation of FESIJEM to be confirmed.
