• Al 30 de abril de 2026, se tienen registrados ante el Instituto Mexicano del Seguro Social (IMSS) 22,748,603 (veintidós millones setecientos cuarenta y ocho mil seiscientos tres) puestos de trabajo, la tercera cifra máxima desde que se tenga registro y la máxima considerando solo los meses de abril, de los cuales el 86.9% (ochenta y seis punto nueve por ciento) son permanentes y el 13.1% (trece punto uno por ciento) son eventuales. Los puestos permanentes, 19,763,238 (diecinueve millones setecientos sesenta y tres mil doscientos treinta y ocho) son la mayor afiliación para un mes de abril.
• El incremento mensual durante abril fue de 23,923 (veinte tres mil novecientos veinte tres) puestos, 71,365 (setenta y un mil trecientos sesenta y cinco) puesto más que los reportados en abril de 2025. • Con lo anterior, la creación de empleo en lo que va del año es de 231,527 (doscientos treinta y un mil quinientos veintisiete) puestos, de los cuales el 85.4% (ochenta y cinco punto cuatro por ciento) corresponde a trabajo permanente.
• En los últimos doce meses se observa crecimiento de 330,935 (trecientos treinta mil novecientos treinta y cinco) puestos de trabajo que representan una tasa anual de 1.5% (uno punto cinco por ciento).
• Los sectores económicos con el mayor crecimiento porcentual anual en puestos de trabajo son comunicaciones y transportes con 10.9% (diez punto nueve por ciento), comercio con 3.1% (tres punto uno por ciento) y servicios para empresas con 2.1% (dos punto uno por ciento). Por entidad federativa destacan Estado de México, Ciudad de México, Oaxaca e Hidalgo con aumentos anuales de 2.5% (dos punto cinco por ciento) y más.

SE REGISTRÓ UN SALARIO PROMEDIO DE $664.5

• Al cierre de abril 2026, el salario base de cotización promedio de los puestos de trabajo afiliados al IMSS alcanzó un monto de $664.5 (seiscientos sesenta y cuatro punto cinco pesos), el más alto para cualquier mes desde que se tenga registro.
• Este salario presenta, en su comparación anual, un cambio nominal de $42.7 (cuarenta y dos punto siete pesos), el quinto mayor aumento de entre todos los abriles desde que se tenga registro, en términos relativos la variación anual es de 6.9% (seis punto nueve por ciento).

EN ABRIL SE REGISTRA LA AFILIACIÓN DE MÁS DE UN MILLÓN DE PATRONES

• Al 30 de abril de 2026, se tienen inscritos ante el Instituto 1,019,230 (un millón diecinueve mil doscientos treinta) registros patronales, con una variación mensual negativa de 1,040 (mil cuarenta) registros, correspondientes a una tasa de -0.1% (menos cero punto uno por ciento). En su comparación porcentual anual la variación es negativa de 2.7% (dos punto siete por ciento).
• Cabe señalar que los registros patronales no equivalen a empresas o negocios, sino que son unidades de carácter administrativo utilizadas por el IMSS para identificar y dar seguimiento a las obligaciones de los patrones. Por ello, su disminución no debe interpretarse automáticamente como destrucción o cierre de empresas. La dinámica de los registros patronales puede responder a diversos factores adicionales a las bajas generadas por los patrones, como procesos de depuración, medidas de seguridad institucional, validaciones regulatorias, cumplimiento de obligaciones, actualización de datos o baja de registros duplicados, inactivos o improcedentes. En consecuencia, afirmar que una reducción en el número de registros patronales implica necesariamente el cierre de empresas es incorrecto y técnicamente inadecuado.

IMSS publishes job positions affiliated with the Mexican Social Security Institute

As of April 30, 2026, 22,748,603 jobs were registered with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), the third highest figure on record and the highest for the month of April alone. Of these, 86.9% were permanent and 13.1% were temporary. The 19,763,238 permanent jobs represent the highest number of registrations ever recorded for the month of April.

• The monthly increase during April was 23,923 jobs, 71,365 more than those reported in April 2015. With this, job creation so far this year totals 231,527 positions, of which 85.4% are permanent.
• Over the last twelve months, there has been a growth of 330,935 jobs, representing an annual rate of 1.5%.
• The economic sectors with the highest annual percentage growth in jobs are communications and transportation at 10.9%, commerce at 3.1%, and business services at 2.1%. By state, the State of Mexico, Mexico City, Oaxaca, and Hidalgo stand out with annual increases of 2.5% and above.

AN AVERAGE SALARY OF $664.5 WAGES WAS RECORDED

As of the end of April 2026, the average base salary for social security contributions for jobs affiliated with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) reached $664.5 (six hundred sixty-four point five pesos), the highest for any month on record.

This salary represents a nominal change of $42.7 (forty-two point seven pesos) year-over-year, the fifth largest increase among all Aprils on record. In relative terms, the year-over-year variation is 6.9% (six point nine percent).

In April, more than one million employers registered.

As of April 30, 2026, 1,019,230 employer registrations were registered with the Institute, representing a monthly decrease of 1,040 registrations, or -0.1%. The year-over-year decrease is 2.7%.

It should be noted that employer registrations are not equivalent to companies or businesses, but rather are administrative units used by the IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute) to identify and monitor employers’ obligations. Therefore, their decrease should not be automatically interpreted as the destruction or closure of businesses. The dynamics of employer registrations can be influenced by various factors beyond employer closures, such as data cleansing processes, institutional security measures, regulatory validations, compliance with obligations, data updates, or the removal of duplicate, inactive, or invalid registrations. Therefore, stating that a reduction in the number of employer registrations necessarily implies business closures is incorrect and technically flawed.
